 3/2010-3/2011     Charlottesville, VA, USA

Initiated La Vida Local – Charlottesville, presently a web-based idea for a store that would sell only locally made goods, as well as an idea for a fashion show in which everything shown would be locally designed and made. I am working toward La Vida Local having an actual location.

Worked as a sales associate at Cottonwood quilt shop, selling quilting supplies and Bernina sewing machines, making samples, and teaching crazy quilting

Set up ArtFire website to sell my own hand-painted ties and scarves, woven scarves, and beaded jewelry. Sold a set of 5 coordinated hand-painted ties.

Juried into the Artisans Center of Virginia at the professional level, thus earning the right to offer classes at Piedmont Virginia Community college. Offered Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom, Designing Repeats for Prints, and Fabric Painting.

Exhibited (and sold) work at Contemporary Crafts (Charlottesville) and Artisphere (Arlington)

Tutored individuals in math and in designing repeats

Tutored students ages 5 to 15 at Huntington Learning Center

3/2005-3/2010     Norwich, UK

Founded Pocktorian Textiles, a textile business incubator created to provide initial space and equipment to textile graduates, aiding them in starting their own businesses. I won a £3000 grant from UnLtd for Pocktorian, but it was dependent on my staying in the UK for the next year, and I could not because the Home Office would not extend my 5-year Visa, so Pocktorian Textiles UK could not continue.
